The VA is the second largest federal agency, with 56 regional offices, 400,000 federal employees, and over 20 million veterans supported, it is the equivalent of a Fortune 10 company. In addition, it is also the largest healthcare organization in the United States. In their modernization efforts, they are moving over 350 applications from on-prem to the cloud. To gain an understanding of what a successful modernization initiative could look like, federal agencies should consider following the successful road paved by the VA, which can be emulated by other government organizations, regardless of size.
